To register a car in Hungary, you need a Hungarian address, proof of ownership, Certificate of Conformity (CoC), insurance, and technical/origin inspection certificates. Pay the registration tax (50,000–2,000,000 HUF), VAT for new cars, and administrative fees. Submit documents to the Document Service Center, and upon approval, receive Hungarian plates and a registration certificate. Foreign-plated cars can be driven for up to 6 months before registration becomes mandatory.
After payment, coordinate the vehicle handover with the seller, either in person or via delivery. Buyers must ensure they receive the registration certificate (forgalmi engedély), ownership document (törzskönyv), and a signed sales contract (adásvételi szerződés), along with proof of a valid technical inspection (műszaki vizsga). Sellers should verify the buyer’s identity, provide all necessary documents, and notify the local Government Office (Kormányhivatal) to complete the ownership transfer in compliance with Hungarian regulations.
